I will be choosing the third and final option for my IDT 516 final project. This option entails doing an online database search of a topic of our choice. The topic that I have chosen to research is how crime rates in a large metropolitan area affect organized sport programs. The purpose of my study is to evaluate the overall effect of organized sport on crime rates involving youth in inner city areas. In my study, the initial independent, or manipulated variable, is the prevalence of organized sport programs within the limits of a large metropolitan area. The independent variable will impact the dependent variable which in this case, is the occurrence of crime, both violent and non violent in the corresponding area.
I will be utilizing the library's resources, as a student, due to the fact that they have so many ties to search engines such as Ebsco Host and ERIC.

Lauren, looks like you are off to a great start. One comment is that many students who have selected this option find it is harder than it looks. I can help in revising your search strategies.

I also chose option three for my final project. I think it is a little more challenging as Dr. West has told us, but I'm with you! I think this is a great fit to our major as we are always researching different topics!
